The AC appears to be operating normally. The thermostat settings are correct, the indoor unit is running, and air is coming from the vents. The problem is that the air isn’t cold. 

Not slightly less cold than usual. Warm. Sometimes close to room temperature. 

The first instinct is to check the thermostat. Then adjust it. Then wonder if the weather is the problem, or the electricity, or something that happened during the last power cut. When none of those explain it, the concern shifts to the unit itself, specifically, whether the gas has finished. 

That assumption is sometimes right. More often, it isn’t the full story. 

An AC blowing warm air is still a working AC. The fan runs. The indoor unit responds to commands. What’s changed is somewhere inside the system, suck as one part has stopped doing its job while the rest continues. Where that failure sits changes everything: what caused it, how urgent it is, and what needs to happen next. 

What the Warm Air Is Actually Telling You 

An air conditioner doesn’t produce cold air directly. It removes heat. The indoor unit pulls warm room air across a coil containing refrigerant, the refrigerant absorbs that heat, and the outdoor unit releases it outside. What comes back through the vents is the same air, minus the heat. 

That process has several stages, and warm air means one of them has broken down. The indoor fan still runs because the fan is not what failed. The unit still responds to the remote because the controls are not what failed. What stopped is somewhere in the chain between air entering the indoor unit and cooled air returning to the room.

Reading the Pattern Before Looking for a Cause
