Residents of Karachi say that University Road has become very dangerous because of long-running construction work on the Red Line BRT project.
For more than four and a half years, the road from Malir Halt to Numaish Chowrangi has been left in poor condition. There are deep holes, broken sections and dirty water on the road. These problems have caused many accidents and serious traffic delays.
People who travel every day face high risk, especially between Hasan Square and Jail Chowrangi. Rainwater and sewage have filled open pits, making them hard to see for drivers.
According to The Express Tribune, two rickshaws fell into the same water-filled hole within minutes. One of them was carrying passengers, and people nearby had to help rescue them. A motorcyclist was also hurt after falling into a ditch.
Travel time has increased a lot. A short trip now takes hours. Local people say the authorities are not acting fast enough, even though the danger is clear.
The Red Line project was supposed to improve public transport on this road. But after years of slow work and weak safety steps, many people now question if the project is worth the daily risk.
Residents are asking for quick road repairs, proper safety barriers and faster completion of the project to protect lives.
