Lahore Traffic Police Introduce Motorcycle Patrol Strategy to Reduce Fuel Costs
The Lahore Traffic Police have launched a new cost-saving strategy aimed at reducing fuel consumption and operational expenses as increasing petrol prices continue to put pressure on government departments.
The initiative was announced on Tuesday by Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Athar Waheed, who directed senior officials to adopt more fuel-efficient practices in their routine duties.
Motorcycle Patrol to Replace Cars
Under the new plan, senior traffic officers including SPs, DSPs, and sector in-charges will perform patrol duties on motorcycles instead of official cars whenever possible.
Authorities say the shift is expected to significantly cut fuel consumption while ensuring that traffic monitoring and enforcement continue across Lahore without disruption.
Officials believe motorcycles will also allow officers to navigate congested roads more easily and respond faster to traffic issues in busy areas of the city.
Stricter Control Over Fuel Consumption
During a departmental review meeting, CTO Athar Waheed examined the fuel usage records of traffic police vehicles and ordered tighter supervision of fuel allocations.
According to the revised policy, no official vehicle will be permitted to leave Police Lines without a duty slip, which will clearly state the purpose and location of the assignment.
This measure aims to increase transparency, prevent unnecessary vehicle usage, and ensure that government fuel resources are used strictly for official duties.
Authorities expect that improved monitoring and accountability will help curb misuse of vehicles and reduce overall operational costs.
Temporary Relief for Transport Operators
In addition to internal reforms, the Lahore Traffic Police have also announced a temporary relief measure for the public.
CTO Athar Waheed stated that traffic challans will not be issued to rickshaws, motorcycles, and loader rickshaws until the Eid holidays. The decision is intended to ease financial pressure on commuters, delivery riders, and small transport operators who have been affected by rising fuel prices and inflation.
Officials clarified that while challans may be relaxed for minor violations, traffic rules must still be followed to maintain road safety.
Public Cooperation Requested
The CTO also appealed to citizens to support government efforts to conserve fuel during the current economic challenges.
Residents were advised to avoid unnecessary travel, follow traffic regulations, and adopt fuel-saving habits whenever possible. Authorities emphasized that public cooperation will play an important role in reducing fuel consumption while maintaining smooth traffic flow in the city.
The Lahore Traffic Police hope that these measures will not only lower operational expenses but also encourage more responsible fuel usage across the transport sector.
